GoodWork alumni speak about youth unemployment at Westminster

With the final report of the Milburn Review just around the corner, GoodWork has been working to make sure young people’s voices are heard in the conversation about the youth unemployment crisis.

We recently joined the 1987 Committee’s Youth Summit at Portcullis House, where our founder and CEO, Felicity, chaired a panel session featuring young people from the GoodWork community.

The Milburn Review has highlighted the scale of the crisis, and how hard it hits young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Our panellists spoke powerfully about the barriers they’ve faced in finding work, from being the first in their family to pursue a corporate career to leaving school without real preparation for the world of work.

They also shared what has made a difference for them, particularly building their networks and making connections through our programme. It was a privilege to bring their perspectives into the room.

Over the course of the evening, we also heard from Baroness Anne Longfield (Chair and Founder of the Centre for Young Lives), Natasha Irons MP, David Burton-Sampson MP, Ayesha Baloch of Impetus, Abbee McLatchie of the National Youth Agency, and Tom Slatter of The Brokerage.

Thank you to Fatima Kamara and the 1987 Committee for bringing us together.
